Product Review: Ole Henriksen Ole La La Glow from Head to Toe Blockbuster Kit from Bath & Unwind

A little while ago I received an email from Bath & Unwind inviting me to become a member of their new Tried and Tested Beauty Panel. Bath & Unwind is a fantastic online shopping site, that sells all the big beauty brands you can think of, and then some, and best of all is that they ship free worldwide too – so I naturally excitedly accepted this amazing opportunity. This means that I over the coming months regularly will be featuring some amazing products available from Bath & Unwind. Here are my thoughts on the *Ole Henriksen Ole La La Glow from Head to Toe Blockbuster Kit;

What They Say:
"A beautiful festive box set filled with a comprehensive kit of radiance-boosting products (including the limited edition salt body scrub) to help get skin glowing from head to toe."

The Ole Henriksen Ole La La Glow from Head to Toe Blockbuster Kit contains:

RRP: $105.86 (saving $116.81) – Available from Bath & Unwind

What I Say:
Can you believe it, like Ole Henriksen, I am Danish. And like Ole, I used to have a surname ending with –sen (before I got married), which admittedly the majority of the Danish population has. But that is unfortunately also where it stops. I’ve never been to LA where Ole apparently resides, and while I have a few of his beauty books (in Danish!), I have actually never tried any of his products, even though it has been on my wish list for so long. And that’s why I was so excited when I was asked the trial the Ole Henriksen Ole La La Glow from Head to Toe Blockbuster Kit.

And this kit is a true blockbuster, containing a whopping nine different product, so there is plenty of opportunity to get familiar with the brand.

In spite of being called ‘Glow from Head to Toe’ the kit actually only contains one product for the body, the Rub 'n' Buff Body Salt Scrub, the rest of the products are for the face, which I don’t mind.

The products come presented in a gorgeous turquoise case, with a bright pink insert. Here’s a rundown on the different products in the kit;

Rub 'n' Buff Body Salt Scrub

This is a limited edition product, so I am not sure if the 170g is a sample size, or the only size the product has been available in. It comes in a round glass jar with a screw lid, and to be honest, as soon as I took off the lid I was in love. This Salt Scrub has the most amazingly fresh citrus scent, my absolute favourite scent. As the description on the jar says, this truly is an energising salt scrub containing lemongrass and lavender oil, and it has the most beautiful citrus scent.

The Salt Scrub claims to exfoliate and increase micro-circulation, detoxify and purify, energise and sooth with essential oils.

The scrub has a lovely creamy texture, and unlike other salt scrubs that I’ve tried before, the salt bits are a lot finer. I use it in the shower when my skin is still damp, and I can instantly feel how it is gently buffing away the dead skin cells and debris. It is a little difficult to rinse off, and the salt does gather a little at the bottom of my shower base, but once rinsed and dried off, it is so worth it. My skin is smoother than ever, and still has that beautiful citrus scent. And because my skin is so soft, and to ‘preserve’ the gorgeous scent, I resist the temptation of adding moisturiser – and yet I don’t feel that my skin is dry at all. I also use the salt scrub on my hands and feet, and again with an amazing result. I love everything about this salt scrub, and am so sad to hear that it is a limited edition product

African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser

The African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser is a generous sample size, about a quarter of the full-sized bottle. The foaming cleanser is enriched with anti-aging botanical extracts, and contains powerful, naturally antioxidant-rich African red tea and Ester-C. The soothing, non-drying formula is strong enough to remove makeup, but gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. Regular usage will bring your skin to new levels of clarity and luminosity.

This cleanser has a lovely berry scent and comes in a small pump bottle, and in the bottle the cleanser is a liquid, but once you push the pump you get a soft foam. It easily and gentle removes even my long-wearing makeup, with the exception of my waterproof mascara, but I don’t mind that as I prefer to use a specific eye makeup remover anyway. Afterwards my skin is so soft and smooth, and without being dried out.

Truth Serum Collagen Booster

I have heard so many things about this Truth Serum Collagen Booster, and I believe it is one of the key products from the Ole Henriksen product range.

The serum is also a generous size, half the size a full-sized bottle, and it comes in an easy to use glass bottle with a pump. The is infused with a high-powered vitamin C complex to help smooth out lines and wrinkles while preventing further damage. It's loaded with antioxidants to fight off environmental aggressors and moisture-binding ingredients to hydrate and keep your skin nourished and protected. Totally weightless, this aromatic serum is absorbed instantly and penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin where it goes to work to provide long-term results, a must-have preventative and corrective product. Sensitive skins and those prone to irritation will benefit immensely from the calming properties and it is paraben-free.

As well as being firming and boosting collagen, the serum also claims to minimise lines and wrinkles and to brighten and even the skin tone. As Ole Henriksen puts it: “Truth is in the test” as it has been “clinically proven to instantly brighten and significantly improve skin’s radiance in just 7 days”

While I have only used this serum a few times, it is difficult to talk about the long-term effects, but it immediately absorbs into my skin, leaving it so smooth, and it really does instantly leave my skin feeling soft and glowingly healthy. The serum has a lovely fresh orange scent.

Ultimate Lift Eye Gel

This Ultimate Lift Eye Gel comes in a small glass jar, a quarter the size of the full-sized product. It claims to be a dual-action firming and de-puffing intensely hydrating gel that contains calming calendula and cucumber to cool and calm fatigued or irritated eyes, while diminishing fine lines and firming and lifting the eye zone.

The gel has a gentle scent from the included aloe vera gel and cucumber essence, and the gel is easy to pad into the eye area, absorbing quickly, and you instantly feel it’s refreshing and moisturising properties. Although this eye gel is intended for night-time use, it is so nice to use in the mornings to fake a bad night’s sleep.

Truth to Go Cleansing Wipes

I have to be honest and admit that I am not a massive user of facial wipes. Except when I am going overseas on long-haul flights, then I think they are genius for refreshing and cleansing your face mid-flight. And this small pack of moisturising Truth To Go Cleansing Wipes has the perfect size to fit into the handbag. The wipes are infused with anti-oxidant rich ingredients and easily and gently removes makeup, including dirt and grime, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth.

Invigorating Night Gel

This paraben-free Invigorating Night Gel is a very generous sample size at half the size a full-sized product. The gel contains among others alpha hydroxy acids, which helps stimulate rapid cell renewal, refine pores and minimise pores, and resurface and smooth the skin texture, while mineral and algae complex help nourish and hydrate the deepest layers of the skin.

Gel has a slightly strange, yet mild scent which quickly fades. It has a watery gel consistency that absorbs instantly into the skin, and within seconds you wouldn’t even know you’ve applied it, as there is absolutely no stickiness of tackiness. It doesn’t feel particularly moisturising on the skin, but it is also recommended to follow with ideally the Sheer Transformation Renewing Crème. As someone with combination skin, I like that it is so light, as often applying a rich serum followed by a night cream is too much for my skin making it feel drowned and congested.

Sheer Transformation Crème

This sample sized jar of Sheer Transformation Crème is about a third the size of a full-sized cream. This cream can be used both morning and night, in the morning over the Truth Serum, and at night over the Night Gel.

The oil-free cream contains among others ‘Actiwhite’, fruit acids/beta hydroxy acid and liquorice and claims to refine skin texture and tone, as well as fade dark skin discolorations such as freckles, age spots and sun damage, without the use of chemicals, while providing hydration to the skin.

The cream is incredibly light and absorbs into the skin immediately leaving my skin feeling skin feeling silky soft and smooth. I love that this moisturiser is so light and oil-free, yet my skin still feels thoroughly moisturised, and without making my skin feeling greasy as the day goes on, or clogging my pores. This cream is so perfect for my combination skin, especially now that it is summer and my skin tends to be even greasier. Having used this cream for just a few days I am yet to see any results, but as I am loving how it feels on my skin, I already have no doubt I will purchase this cream again.

Truth Is in the Eyes Peel Concentrate

This Truth Is In The Eye Peel Concentrate is actually a full size, and on its own it cost $69.98, making the $105 for the full gift set extremely good value.

I have never before used a peel around my eyes, so this product intrigued me. It is claimed to be a gentle peel for the delicate eye area (avoiding the lid), accelerating cell renewal to minimise lines, wrinkles and milia, while strengthening under-eye tissue and improving circulation to reduce dark circles and puffiness.

The Eye Peel has next to no scent and it has the consistency of a light serum gel. It absorbs instantly into the skin, without making the eye area feel greasy or tacky, you can hardly feel you’ve applied it as the eye area doesn’t even feel moisturised – which is also the reason it is recommended to follow with an eye cream.

I have very sensitive eyes, so I was a little worried using this eye peel, but it has not caused any irritation or redness at all. And after just a few uses, the area around my eyes does look slightly less puffy and circles do seem to have minimised, so I can’t wait to see what long-term use will do.

Power Peel Kit

The final product in the kit is 2 applications of the Power Peel Kit, and as a full pack of these Power Peels gives you 6 applications, again this Blockbuster kit proves fantastic value.

The triple-step Power Peels are a professional grade microdermabrasion and chemical peel treatment that claims to dramatically resurface and retexture the skin, smooth lines and wrinkles and even the skin tone. The Power Peel consists of an Almond Polish, a Lemon Strip and a Chamomile Comfort. The Almond Polish contains among others oat kernel flour, bamboo stem powder and almond and is to be massaged into the skin for 1-2 minutes to exfoliate the skin. The Lemon Strip contains lactic and glycolic acid as well as fruit acids to peel and refines the skin, and is to be left on the skin for 2 minutes and without rinsing it off, the Chamomile Comfort is to be applied on top and left on for 15 minutes. This is a moisturising mask with evening primrose oils, chamomile azulene, which together soothes and calms the skin.

These small sachets are literally a facial in a pack. After the treatment is finished, I am left with incredibly soft and radiant skin, with no irritation or redness in sight. Pores seem refined and my skin feels less greasy. Afterwards my moisturiser absorbs quicker and easier than normal, and the glow remains for the rest of the day. This is a true wonder treatment for a new mum like myself, who cannot find the time to go to a salon for a professional treatment. And I love that it comes in small sachets, so you get the exact amount of product you need. And these small sachets are perfect for travelling too! Absolutely amazing!

Overall, I am so impressed with this Blockbuster Kit from Ole Henriksen. It contains samples of some of the key products in the range, and as the samples are so generous, you will have sufficient product to use for long enough to see if you like the products and they agree with your skin. I am so happy to finally have tried Ole Henriksen’s products, they are as fantastic as I had heard, so I will most definitely repurchase full sized products when I run out. I am one proud Dane!
