BRAND FOCUS: EGO SUNSENSE

Today I’d like to put focus on some amazing sunscreen products from the brand Ego SunSense. In case you are not aware, SunSense is an Australian company founded in 1953, and has since then started selling products around the world. In fact, in 1988 the company developed the world’s first cosmetically acceptable sunscreen offering broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, using physical protection blockers and UV absorbers. And it is not just an Australian family owned business, the products are also made in Victoria, in Australia, and in actual fact just around the corner from where I used to live (and still not very far away), so it just doesn’t get more local than that!

I have grown up loving the sun. But I guess most Scandinavians do. Summers are short, so when the sun is finally out, you are out too, enjoying it. All day long! In my older years that has naturally lead to some sun damage, and now being pregnant, I can already start to see the pigmentation increasing again, especially on my face, and will do what I can to keep it to a minimum. Add to that, that my husband has had a few moles cut out as they looked a little suspicious, but luckily weren’t. And our little 18 month old boy has such perfect skin, free from any marks, sunspots or blemishes, that I will do what I can to keep it that way for as long as possible. Besides being so young, his skin is also very sensitive and very susceptible to sun damage, so it does need all the protection it can get.

Ego SunSense Junior SPF 50+ UVA & UVB Broad Spectrum Lotion for Young and Delicate Skin

For our little boy I like to use a sunscreen specifically designed for young skin, and this junior lotion has been designed for babies (6 months and over), toddlers and kids. The lotion is PABA-, fragrance- and colour-free, and has been designed without irritating ingredients so it is particularly suitable for young kids’ delicate skin. It offers two hours waterproof UVA and UVB broad spectrum protection, and it comes in a handy little roll-on so you can easily carry it in your handbag and apply it to your kids’ skin as frequently as required. It is a little thick, but t quickly absorbs into the skin without leaving it feeling greasy. RRP: $8.95 (50ml Roll-On)

Ego SunSense SPF 50+ For UVA & UVB Broad Spectrum Lotion for Sensitive Skin

This sunscreen lotion has been developed for even the most sensitive of skin, including babies! Obviously it is not advised to expose a very young baby to the sun, but sometimes it is just inevitable, and that’s where this Lotion for Sensitive Skin is suitable. The lotion has been made without chemical absorbers, lanolin and colour. And it is water resistant and keeps the skin protected for up to four hours. The light cream absorbs quickly without being greasy or sticky, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth. RRP: 10.95 (75g)

Ego SunSense Lip Balm SPF 50+

This Lip Balm is fragrance free, and is hence suitable for the whole family. The slanted tip makes it quick and easy to apply, and it instantly makes your lips feel so soft and intensely moisturised. It contains SPF50+ with high spectrum UVA and UVB protection, and it is waterproof for 4 hours. It applies almost invisibly and is hence also perfect to use under any other lipstick or lipgloss to keep you lips protected. RRP: $5.95 (15g)

Ego SunSense Ultra SPF 50+ UVA & UVB Broad Spectrum Lotion for the Family

The SunSense is a good all-round sunscreen suitable for the whole family. It comes in a convenient spray bottle that makes it easy to apply, although you still do have to massage it into the skin. And because of the spray, it does feel slightly runnier than the other SunSense lotions, but don’t be fooled, it still feels very moisturising on the skin. It offers SPF5+ protection and is water resistant for up to three hours, and as it is also non-comedogenic it doesn’t block up the pores or cause breakouts, although I do find it a little too greasy to use on my face with combination skin, but lucky there are specific sunscreens for the face, so no need to worry. RRP: $17.95 (200ml)

Ego SunSense SPF 50+ Daily Face Invisible Tint Finish

This oil-free sunscreen is so light and offers a surprisingly matte finish for a sunscreen, so it is perfect for my combination skin, and any others with greasy skin, also because it is non-comedogenic so it won’t block pores. The SPF50+ sunscreen has a slight tint when it comes out of the tube, but amazingly, when applied to the skin, it truly is invisible, although it still somehow manages to even out my skin tone, covering minor pigmentation, marks and blemishes. I am always wearing at least a tinted moisturiser or BB cream when I am out and about, but I find that even the slight tint does make me feel more ‘comfortable’ in my skin, than if going out in the ‘nude’. It can of course also under makeup for even more coverage. RRP: $14.95 (75g)

Ego SunSense SPF 50+ Moisturising Face and Neck

The SunSense Moisturising Face SPF 50+ is a light, moisturising, oil-free sunscreen, which is ideal for normal and dry skin, so it is perfect for my husband’s skin, and he really likes that it doesn’t leave a greasy film on his skin, as that is often what stops him from wearing sunscreen during the day when he is at work. And even though I have combination skin that even tends to become even greasier during summer, this sunscreen lotion is so light that I do not find it an issue using it on my face on makeup free days where it is ok should my skin gets a little greasy during the day. And in saying that, I am actually surprised at how light it is, and that it absorbs so rapidly into the skin without any greasy residue, as most other sunscreens, and in particularly such high SPF ones, tend to be both very thick but also very greasy on the skin. $13.95 (100ml)

So there you have it, a selection of sunscreens from Ego SunSense that covers the needs of the whole family when out and about in the harsh sun. But check out the rest of their range, there are so many more products to pick from, so there’s sure to be some products that are perfect for you and your family too! From this bunch I particularly love the Junior Roll on for my little boy, the lip balm, and for myself the Invisible Tint Finish, and also surprisingly the Moisturising Face and Neck cream. There is also an anti-ageing range available, which unfortunately I was unable to trial as the products contains ingredients not considered safe during the pregnancy, but they’ll be sure to be on my wish list for next summer!
