What I Say:
It has been over a year and a half since I wrote about the products I would repurchase if I shock, horror lost all my makeup – and while a few products on the list have changed, some have remained trusted favourites, and one of them is the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation – it is simply the one and only foundation that stays put all day, even when it is hot and humid, on my combination skin.
But now, as a stay at home mum, it is not very often that I need such a full covering foundation, so I was excited when I was offered the opportunity to trial the new Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup SPF10. Normally I not feel that BB creams offer my skin quite enough coverage, as sadly I do have some pigmentation, as well as some unsightly scarring and marks from past acne, so I was curious to see how this new BB cream would perform.
Just the fact that the BB cream is oil-free and non-acnegenic makes it sound perfect for my skin. In addition, as per the name, it is long wearing, with a claim of lasting for up to 8 hours. It also promises to brighten and even out the skintone, leaving it with a healthy glow thanks to soft optics.
The actual BB Cream is very light, and absorbs very quickly into the skin – actually almost too quickly, so you have to be very fast at blending it out. But it is easy to blend both with a brush, although I prefer to use my fingers.
According to Estee Lauder the BB Cream has a sheer, natural coverage, but unlike all other BB creams I have so far tried, and believe me, that is a few, it offers a medium coverage, while still making the skin look natural – and even though this is hence more covering than it claims to be, I really don’t mind, in fact, I love it!
The BB Cream evens out my minor pigmentation, redness and some scarring, and I like that it is possible to build up the coverage a little more where needed. Still, it is nowhere near as heavy and as covering as the Double Wear Foundation, so it is perfect for casual days or for those simply preferring (and being lucky to have so beautiful skin) that less coverage is needed.
The BB Cream moisturizing ingredients, including Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin, and it does feel lovely and moisturising on the skin, yet without being over the top for my combination skin.
It contains Skin Vitalizing Pearlessence, which is a transparent, opalescent mica that delivers instant skin luminosity and imparts clean, bright colour, plus glossy luster to skin – and it gives my skin a lovely semi-matte finish, with a nice glow, yet without any shimmer, which personally I like, as shimmers often make my skin look shiny and greasy.
Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup SPF30 in Intensity 3.0 |
...and blended into the skin |
The shade Intensity 3.0 is a good match for my medium beige skin tone right now, although it may be a touch dark in the midst of winter.
I set the BB Cream with a quick dusting of powder, and still, true to its word, and its name, the BB Cream is long wearing, lasting all day without settling into fine lines, and without changing colour or making my face look greasy – it simply continues to look freshly applied until I decide to remove it at night. Not many BB creams can do that on my skin. And then imagine what using a primer first would do to the wear! This is obviously on an autumn day, so not sure how it would perform on a hot summer’s day, but maybe that is when it would be ideal to apply the primer first.
What I Like:
- It has medium coverage that is possible to build up
- Gives the skin a nice semi-matte finish and a nice glow
- Incredibly long wearing, looking freshly applied, even after a full days’ wear
- Has SPF30
What I Don’t Like:
- I really have no negatives to say about this BB Cream as it truly lives up to the claims
Overall, I am really impressed with this BB Cream, it not only stays put and looks glowing and freshly applied all day without changing colour or settling into fine lines, and all while offering a decent, yet very natural coverage. I already know that this will be my new go-to product for casual wear, so well done, Estee Lauder, you’ve created a masterpiece again!
