In preparation for the Spring Racing, one of the finest hotels in Melbourne, the Langham is hosting special Vogue High Tea and we were greeted with a flute of Domaine Chandon NV Brut on arrival – this would be my first alcoholic drink in over a year, first being pregnant, and now breastfeeding our four month old son – but I did enjoy a couple of tiny sips, but controlled myself. And I had drunk it all, I would no doubt have been rather tipsy.
The High Tea included Classic Tiffin Tea dishes and desserts including among others ribbon sandwiches with cucumber and egg, cream cheese and chives, free range chicken and smoked salmon pin wheels.
The deserts consisted among others of scones with jam and cream, very vanilla cupcakes, chocolate macarons, lace cookies, Vogue strawberry éclairs and salted caramel popcorn tarts (my favourite of the day!)..
I brought my husband and our little boy along, and my husband was pretty excited about the whole experience, saying we have to do that again – and as for our little boy, he was the best little boy, not crying once, which is pretty amazing for a four month old little boy seeing we were there for almost two hours. Rather he was his usual charming little self, smiling at everyone that passed by our table.
The service at the Langham was pretty impressive too, which is sadly very rare these days – but the staff was very attentive and constantly coming to our table asking if everything was ok or if we needed anything. Our little boy was also offered a baby-chino, though he is a tad too young for that yet, so we’ll have to do a raincheck for that one!
And of course, just being at the Langham was an experience in itself as it is such a charming hotel.
