What I Say:
The new Clarins Extra Comfort Foundation contains Plant Micropatch, which claim to help control skin shine while also delivering balanced moisture to the drier parts of the face. Together with organic argan oil, it works to promote more comfortable-feeling skin over a period of 14 hours. It also contains Light-Optimising+ Complex, which is made up of soft-focus and photochromic pigments and pearls, and helps minimise the look of imperfections and enhances a more beautiful-looking complexion.
Finally it also contains an anti-pollution and antioxidant complex that reinforces the foundation’s skin care benefits while neutralising free radicals. A mineral-based SPF 15 protects the skin from the harmful effects of the sun.
I often find it difficult to find a foundation that matches my skin because I like it to give a good coverage to cover pigmentation, redness and old acne scars, but with combination skin prone to breaking out, often the foundation will either slide off my face at lunch time, or make my skin break out.
Often anti-ageing products are thick and heavy, and not the best mix with combination or oily skin types, but the Clarins Extra Comfort Foundation has a non-oily texture, which is surprising seeing it has a very thick consistency.
In spite of the thick and creamy consistency it is surprisingly easy to apply and blend with either the fingers or a foundation brush. It is very concentrated and just the tiniest amount gives a nice medium coverage, easily covering redness and scarring and evening out the skin tone, while fine lines are visibly minimised. And on the areas that requires more coverage, adding a little more instantly gives a full coverage, while still looking nice and natural, with a satin finish and a healthy glow.
The foundation, true to its name, feels so nice and comfortable on my skin, and you can instantly feel its moisturising properties, my skin simply looks plump and healthy.
Used on top of the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (check out my review here) it lasts for 8+ hours, without sliding off my face, changing colours, or settling into fine lines. (And don’t forget to enter my giveaway to win a Clarins Beauty Flash Balm)
Like all other Clarins products, it has a gorgeous floral scent, which I really like, and it linger around a little once applied, although it is still subtle.
The foundation comes in a heavy frosted glass jar with a gold lid, and it looks and feels expensive and luxurious. Normally I admit to preferring foundations with pumps, or alternatively it squeeze tubes, but this one also comes with a little spatula for the foundation which I really love – such a small thing, but I love the fact that I don’t have to constantly dip my fingers into the foundation saving it from bacteria, and not to mention avoiding getting foundation under my nails!!
The only negative about the jar is that it is not good for travelling or putting in your handbag for touch ups during the day, as it is a little heavy and being glass obviously also risks breaking, but it certainly looks fantastic on the dresser.
On the positive, the jar means that you can use up every last drop, as well as see exactly how much product you have left.
Another positive is that it has triple protection; fighting free radicals, pollution and contains SPF15 to guard against UV rays.
What I Like:
- That it gives my skin a medium coverage, yet still looks natural
- It cares for my skin whilst covering imperfections
- It contains SPF15
- It comes in luxurious packaging
What I Don’t Like:
- At $80 it is a little expensive for 30ml
- While I love the look of the luxurious glass jar, I still prefer pump bottles
- The plastic lid that covers the foundation is a tiny bit too small, so foundation is coming up on the sides, and consequently making it a little messy
Overall, this foundation is amazing, and I love how it feels on my skin, and how natural it makes my skin look, while still evening out my skin tone and covering imperfections including darker pigmentation marks and scarring. And I love that it is an anti-ageing product, so it both works to replenish my skin while providing coverage, and protecting from further damage. It is perfect for my ageing combination skin, and I can also imaging that due to its moisturising properties, that it would be very suitable for those with normal or dry skin types. It is a little expensive, but as I mainly use tinted moisturisers/BB creams (check out my review of one of my current favourites, the Clarins BB Cream), I will be saving this one for special occasions, and consequently it will last me a long time – but when I do run out, it will be on the top of my list!
