Product Revew: Philips VisaPure Facial Cleansing Brush - and Giveaway

When I got pregnant last year, and had to stop using some of the skin care products I had otherwise sworn to in order to keep my skin clear, I gave in and purchased an expensive mechanical facial cleansing brush. And I loved it from the word go, as it simply instantly made such a visible difference on my skin. Since them, several other mechanical facial brushes have been introduced, and here are my thoughts on the *Philips VisaPure Facial Cleansing Brush. – And if you hurry, you’ve got a chance of winning one too, so keep reading...

"Philips VisaPure brings a new face care technology that will take your daily face cleansing routine to the next level with no extra effort. A gentle way of leaving your skin clean, soft and radiant."

What I Say:
As with all the mechanical facial brushes, the idea is that they clean more effectively than cleansing your face by hand. But before I go into my thoughts on the Philips VisaPure, here are the key features;

Philips claims that the new VisaPure Facial Cleansing Brush:

  • Quick Start Guide

I have now been using the Philips VisaPure Facial Cleansing Brush for about a month, and I am really enjoying it.

While it does say that it is so gentle that you can use it twice daily, I have to admit that I have mainly used it at night time before going to bed, and only few times in the mornings as well, when my skin has felt more greasy or congested.

I have combination skin prone to breakouts, and while I don’t have particularly sensitive skin, I did test the sensitive brush head (pink) that comes with the brush, but quickly realised that I got better results and my skin felt even softer when using the brush head for normal skin types.

After using the VisaPure my skin really feels so soft and smooth and clean like never before, yet without being red or irritated or feeling over-cleansed. And after using for about a month my skin feels and looks healthier and more glowing and radiant and is no longer as greasy. I feel I have less breakouts, and when I do feel a pimple is on its way, I feel that brush not only helps it along and make sure that it doesn’t get as big as it otherwise would, and that it clears up again so much faster.

I have heard some say that when they first start using a mechanical facial brush, the skin goes through a purging stage and will break out like crazy, before it clears up completely. But I have to say, that I have never experienced that, neither with previous brushes that I have tried, nor with the Philips Visa Pure. My skin simply looked better from day one of using it. I also clearly notice that my serums and creams absorb into the skin a lot quicker.

What I like about the facial cleansing brush is that you can use it with any cleanser you have, and even a basic cleanser will give you great results as the brush vibrates and rotates to clean deep down every single pore. And another great thing is that I actually find that you use less cleanser than you would if you were cleansing your face by hand, so while you do have the initial outlay of buying the brush, it will save you long term as your cleansers will simply go further.

The brush is fantastic at removing the stubborn long wearing makeup – but I do prefer removing my makeup first using my hands, and then following with the brush, to remove any leftover makeup, and give my pores a good clean – and doing it that way, also keeps the brushes clean for longer.

The brush is very easy to use, and once it is charged, as claimed it lasts for 30 1-minute uses – and it really does, as I am yet to recharge mine after using it for over a month every night as well as few mornings here and there. I like that the brush has a zone timer, in similar style as most electric tooth brushes, which makes it easy to know when to move on to the next area of the face, and stops you from over-cleansing certain areas.

And although the brush is completely waterproof so you can use it in the shower, using it at night, I have mainly been using it over the sink.

The actual brush is very different in design to other brushes that I have used, and is supposedly ergonomically designed. And it certainly is a lot more slimline, feminine and elegant – although it does look a little sexual (LOL) – but even so, I really like the elegant and pink design, and have not been hesitating having it out on display on the bathroom bench – and this in spite of selling our house and having countless of potential buyers through the house!  I also love that it is so slimline and lightweight, which will mean that I can bring with me when I travel, something that I have been doing with my other facial brushes as they are simply too heavy and bulky.

Even though I do love the look and design of the brush, when it is wet, it is a little slippery difficult to hang on to, and as the on-off button only requires a very gentle push, I often find that I push it by mistake.

I also love the small and discrete charger which also doubles as a stand for the brush, although unfortunately you have to remove the small clear caps that protect the bristles before putting the brush into the stand.

What I Like:
  • That my skin feels and looks so much healthier and more glowing
  • My skin is less greasy and congested, so my makeup goes on nicer and stays put for longer
  • That I get less breakouts, and those I get are smaller and disappear faster too
  • Creams and serums absorb into the skin faster and better
  • Only a small amount of cleanser is required
  • It is small and lightweight
  • It lasts for 30 uses of one minute on charge
  • The slimline and elegant design
  • It is faster to give your face a good clean than when using your hands

What I Don’t Like:
  • The brush is a little slippery in the hands when it is wet
  • It is easy to accidentally push the on-off button while in use, turning off the brush
  • It comes with small clear plastic to protect the brush heads when not in use, but then are a little difficult to put on while not bending the bristles
  • A little more expensive than other facial cleansing brushes on the market

Overall, I am really enjoying using the Philips VisaPure Facial Cleansing Brush, as I can clearly both see and feel. At $199 it is not cheap, but when you think about it, it is not much more than a facial at a salon these days, and when you also save on the amount of cleanser you go through (and not to mention use less blemish products too), it really is a great investment that you can enjoy using for years and years.
